Design Approach, Part 1 - Listen to the Client
While each building project presents its own unique questions to be answered and problems to be solved, my search for solutions follows a consistent track. I view the design process as an extended conversation between the client and myself. The process always begins with the client speaking while I attentively listen and try to distill the design goals and objectives. I see myself as a facilitator through whom the client's design dreams and goals are given three-dimensional reality. To this end I may challenge assumptions and question desires in an attempt to help the client distinguish between their needs and wants; it may be necessary to prioritize these in order to bring them in line with the stated budget.
